Chlamydia trachomatis urethritis

Chlamydia trachomatis urethritis is a sexually transmitted infection, leading to urethritis.

Spread of infection

  • Sexual contact
  • genital discharge transferred via hand to mucous membrane of eyes or mouth etc.

Incubation Period

  • Men: 14 – 28 days
  • Women: may remain dormant for few months to years, and the infected person may be asymptomatic.

Symptoms

  • Men: Frequent urination, burning and stinging, milky urethral discharge
  • Women: Difficult and frequent urination, and urgency.

What are the complications without treatment?

  • Prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, epididymitis and infertility
  • Salpingitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy and infertility
